Psychotherapy for best agers

Aging is a natural process that brings many changes. Over time, physical resilience, certain abilities, or social connections may decline — experiences that can often feel like a loss of control and autonomy. Illnesses or the loss of loved ones may also occur.

Such experiences can trigger feelings of loneliness, overwhelm, or sadness. Depression in later life is not uncommon — but it often manifests differently than in younger people: less through sadness, and more through exhaustion, loss of interest, sleep disturbances, or physical symptoms without a clear medical cause. Among men, increased irritability can often be a sign of emerging depression. Many affected individuals mistakenly believe that this is “just part of getting older.” But that’s not true — depression can be effectively treated at any age.

At the same time, older people possess a wealth of life experience, adaptability, and inner strength. In therapy, I make use of these valuable resources. The foundation for this is the SOC model by Baltes & Baltes:

  • Selection: Focusing on what truly matters in life and on what is still possible.

  • Optimization: Enhancing and developing existing abilities and using them consciously.

  • Compensation: Finding new ways to cope with limitations and maintain quality of life.

In Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, these principles are applied practically — for example, through biographical work and the encouragement of positive, fulfilling activities. The goal is to regain a sense of joy, autonomy, and satisfaction in life, even in the face of challenges.

If you feel that changes associated with aging have become burdensome or signs of depression are emerging, I am here to support you — with experience, empathy, and a resource-focused perspective that highlights your inner strengths.
You can easily schedule an initial consultation — I would be happy to accompany you on your path.
